Since I have been staying in SMEAG classic campus for more than 1 month already, I decided to write something just in memory of the days I spent here. As I am neither planning to study abroad nor immigrate to another country, I started from IELTS general module first. After one month of study in general module, I thought it might be about time for me to try to change to academic module since I wanted to give myself more time studying in academic module before the real IELTS test.
This Monday was the first day after I transfered to academic classes, and I could not keep up with the speed of the teacher as well as the other students in my class. This frustrated me a lot simply because I underestimated the difficulty of the IELTS academic module. Apart from the fact that the speaking and listening part of the test are totally identical, the reading part of academic module requires candidates to acquire the ability to comprehend longer paragraphs and more advanced vocabularies especially in some particular topics such as science, medical or historical subjects.
In addition, except for the similarity of the task 2 in writing part of both modules, the task 1 in academic writing is really difficult for me. As you can need read the graph, table or diagram and try to outline your essay within a limited time with higher level vocabularies and suitable structures. In academic module, I can really experience the pressure brought by the time I have during the exam since the strategy to allocate your time in each section or task becomes more vital especially when you are short of time.
However, due to the trouble brought by myself, I am facing another problem now. While it is only around one month away till my real IELTS exam, I still could not make up my mind in deciding which module I am going to take in my real exam. Choosing general module seems reasonable as it might be easier for me, but would it be confusing for me to study in academic module while preparing for an exam in the other? On the other hand, if I decide to take the exam in academic module, will I have enough time to enable myself to obtain the ability to finish all the tasks of the exam? Those are the things I really need to think about now.
As for aspects other than study, experience the massage service might be the activity I enjoyed most so far. Although some prefer outdoor activities like island hopping, scuba diving or even swim with a whale, I simply do not have the time or mood to experience those events. Thus, the only thing I can enjoy so far is just to find a quiet and reputable massage store nearby to relieve my week-long stress with a reasonable fee.
I will keep on writing something not only to record my life in Philippine but also practice my writing skill. Hopefully, my English level will be improved after this trip.
